Large fireballs have been spotted around the country these past few months, with a recent report from Independence, MO, on October 21, 2010, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
The witness was driving west on 23rd Street just east of Sterling when the object was first seen to the north.
"It was a very large elongated fireball with no defined edges, and was traveling from South to North," the witness stated. "The object was moving very slowly, and appeared to be about 200 feet up and two blocks away from my position."
The witness pulled over, but did not move toward the object out of fear.
"The color was dark orange in the front part, and lighter orange in the back. It was the size of two thumbnails put together. I watched until it went out of sight, which took about 10 minutes. I've never seen anything like this and am still quite shaken up by it."
Three Pennsylvania witnesses from two locations watched a green fireball in the sky over Scottdale, PA, on May 29, 2010; and a few minutes later, a couple in Easton, PA, reported the same object. Read: UFO Examiner files a UFO report; and Green fireball over Pennsylvania: Update.

MO, October 21, 2010 - Large orange glowing object moves slowly over Independence, MO. MUFON Case # 26030.
I was driving West on 23rd Street just a few blocks East of Sterling in Independence, when a light caught my eye just to the North of me. It was a very large elongated fireball with no defined edges, and was traveling from South to North. The object was moving very slowly, and appeared to be about 200 feet up and two blocks away from my position.
I pulled over to the side of the road to observe it, but did not follow it because I was a little bit afraid of what it might be. I didn't have my camera with me. The color was dark orange in the front part, and lighter orange in the back. It was the size of two thumbnails put together. I watched until it went out of sight, which took about 10 minutes. I've never seen anything like this and am still quite shaken up by it. I'd like to know if anyone else has seen anything like it.

Weird! on friday oct 22 2010, me and my friends were hanging out in a little dark area where you could see the stars in teh sky. then suddenly a bright shining like the same you described it soared across the sky. we thought it was a meteor or a shooting star. but it was to bright. we also thought it was a plane but it didnt make any sound and it was to bright and it was too fast.
i am desperate to know if anyone in the Philly area saw slow moving fireballs that were white over the sky towards the airport or SE PA? I saw 4-5 of them for almost a week at the same time between 5:30 and 6:15pm. Live in NJ but noticed them first driving home from work and then went to a parking lot to stop and see if they were moving and they were. Movement was very slow and not a jet or aircraft because it takes me 25 minutes to get home from work and I could still see them. They were towards the setting sun and moving mostly horizontally.
forgot to mention that this would have occured between 11/1 and 11/6 2010
My kid saw something similar last night. We live in Independence, close to the area of the other Independence residence.
It was orange like the sun, but had no tail or sparks. Long time after nightfall, (past 10 ) so not the sunset. . My daughter, who is almost 18, described it as a glowing orange orb. She said it moved to slow to be a comet, and was far too large to be a plane, etc. I covered every possible scenario. She was in tears, insisting it was so, after screaming for us to come see it.
My son saw a strange object over Independence tonight, I ran out and saw a glowing light staying still in the sky, then it reduced in size and moved to the north, then the west. There was no sound coming from it. My son saw a fireball type object drop down from it. We are near Truman and Lees Summit road in Independence. Other people in Independence that we know saw it too. Wondering if anyone else saw it.
There has been a lot of activity in your area lately. Please report this sighting to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) at mufon.com. Will take just a few minutes and you will help the larger study of UFOs in this country. Plus you may find out someone else saw exactly what you did. Let me know if you file a report.
