One Los Angeles county suffered shootings involving citizens in the manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer now alleged to have shot and killed three people, including a Riverside County police officer per a Feb. 7 news report.
The shooting incidents involving citizens occurred in the LA County of Torrance around 5:30 a.m., where police believed vehicles matching the suspect's description led to a shoot out. The first incident occurred on Redbeam Avenue around the 19500 block and involved LA detectives from the Hollywood Division according to Lt. Devin Chase.
Two people were struck by the gunfire that ensued, transported to the hospital and their conditions are currently unknown.
The second shooting incident also occurred in Torrance, and this time it involved Torrance police officers, who also thought they had come upon the Christopher Jordan Dorner vehicle described in a blue alert by the California Highway Patrol. That incident, which occurred around 5:45 a.m., resulted in zero injuries.
Now it appears that neither of them are directly related," according to Lt. Chase, However, he says, "In both of them, officers believed they were at the time."
The former officer being sought was fired from duty in 2008 and began making threats this month on the eve of losing his Navy status as well. An intensive manhunt for Christopher Jordan Dorner followed after the daughter of one of the people threatened was killed on Sunday night, along with her fiance.
The latest update in the case was that the ex-LAPD cop suspect had attempted to steal a boat and flee to Mexico. Police remain on high alert in search of Dorner, with LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck expected to give a press conference update on the case at 10:00 a.m. PST.
