As one of the oldest fashion houses in France, Lanvin’s collection for H&M has garnered much press and was this weekend's must attend event for the woman of New York City. Lanvin lovers lined up at H&M's Fifth Avenue store at 5:30am Saturday for the launch of the new collaboration, Lanvin Hearts H&M. Following in the footsteps of designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Comme des Garcons, Lanvin’s H&M collection is fabulous and fleeting.
During the launch, there were no reports of hair-pulling, rioting in the streets, or any glimpses of Oprah giving away cars, basically the crowds were well-behaved. There was a Twitter rumor of a stabbing during a line-cutting situation at 34th Street H&M near Macy's, but investigators stated there was no such drama to found.
For those Tardy For The Party, the collection is not available online and most stores stated the collection sold out within an hour of opening despite passing out color-coded wrist bands to cut down on chaos. Much of the collection can now be found on Ebay with a price jack...probably just added labor costs. After staging an awe-inspiring runway show of the line on November 18th at New York's Pierre Hotel, Lanvin designer/creative director Alber Elbaz told WWD outside the 5th Avenue store, "We stayed in New York one more night so we could see this...I don't dare go in." He added, "I can't believe it. I was sure there would be no one. I was a bit panicked. This is a once in a lifetime experience." The runway show was celebrity heavy with Sofia Coppola, Andie MacDowell, Emma Roberts, Leelee Sobieski, Anna Sui, Tory Burch and Alexander Wang. The customized version of the H&M collection walked the catwalk with the help of models Asia Chow, Pixie Geldof, Dree Hemingway, Olga and Anna Dello Russo. “It’s such a fantastic experience to see how creatively Alber Elbaz uses his designs to form a couture experience for our exclusive fashion show in New York. Working with this incredibly gifted designer has been like an ongoing fashion moment, and we’re thrilled to offer his masterpieces to our customers.” says Margareta van den Bosch, creative advisor at H&M.
This collection is not only perfect for the New York party girl, the corporate fashionista, but also these dresses provide your girls with that "multi-purpose" bridesmaid dress...while perfectly grooming your groom. When Lanvin’s exclusive collection for H&M arrives in stores on November 23rd, the collection will be available in 200 H&M stores worldwide...I suggest you arrive early.
