As if the opening of the new H&M in Scottsdale Fashion Square wasn’t exciting enough, the company confirmed some very exciting news today, September 2nd! It's a known fact that H&M has championed guest-star designers for years, such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, and Madonna, and now the next designer collaboration will be with Lanvin. Now what exactly is Lanvin you ask? If you haven’t heard of it, now you have.
For those who don’t know, Lanvin is a designer fashion label that was founded by Jean Lanvin in 1989. The brand started out as a milliner and ended up dressing the upper class society of Paris. The brand emphasizes ultrafeminine clothing, marked by elaborate trimmings like beading and embroidery. It even has its own fragrance line! Unfortunately, Lanvin faced some struggles near the end of the twentieth century, but found hope again when designer Alber Elbaz made the decision to collaborate with the brand in 2001. Elbaz is known for his technical skill and his extraordinary innate sense of what women want to wear. While the brand encompasses menswear, it is best loved among editors and celebrities for its exquisitely made womenswear. Expect to see duchesse satin, cocktail-length frocks (often with one shoulder), dressed-up cigarette pants, and volume experimentation as signature pieces. As of today, Lanvin is the oldest French fashion house still in operation. Pretty neat, huh?
With that being said, it is understandable as to why everyone is so thrilled that the two are coming together. Although Lanvin is known for having luxurious and expensive items, the collaboration with H&M will allow those of us who aren’t as highly esteemed to revel in the wealth. Designs by Lanvin at H&M will be available at about 200 stores on November 23rd. Keep an eye out and cross your fingers that one of these 200 stores is in the heart of all Arizona fashion, at Scottsdale Fashion Square.
