Buddy the dog was out and about in Kailua a few days ago with his mom and noticed a bowl of doggie water outside of the Lanikai General Store. Owner Donna Festa came outside to pet Buddy and bring him a doggie treat. Donna pet Buddy and rubbed behind his ears. A happy dog makes for a happy dog owner. In Hawaii there are so many businesses now that do not welcome dogs so when I find one that welcomes our beloved pets I want to share it with my readers. It is always a good thing to support local businesses and especially ones who welcome animals into their store.
Donna said she leaves a bowl of fresh water out each day for people who are walking their dogs on the beach or just passing by. She also feeds the ferral cats who hang around outside the stores in the mall. Donna shared with me a sad story about her dog as she lost recently. She said she would love to have another dog that because she has the store would not have the time to spend with another pet. You probably know Donna from her association with her family who owned Boston pizza in Kailua. Her brother Bob, owns the pizza shop next door to the general store. So if you are like me and you enjoy good Boston pizza come on down and enjoy a slice of pizza on the outdoor patio and bring your dog.
Lanikai General Store is tucked away in the side of the mall. It's a small store but is filled with amazing items. They carry ice cream, bottled water, tobacco, ice, hats and sunglasses, and Aloha gifts plus many more items. They also carry the famous Aloha beer. The store has an old-fashioned feel to it and Donna is warm and welcoming. Believe me it's worth stopping by just to say hello. Check out the postcards for only $.35.
