Lanier staring down the bullet first day of the first Southern Open

Big bites today, 2013 Southern Open (198 boats) season got under way in weather that was warm during practice, following a long chain of storm and tornado conditions yesterday which led to a cold front that moved in right afterwards. The temperature dropped thirty degrees today into the 50’s. The best Pro Bass angler will be the one who is able to take advantage of the winter variable conditions on Lake Toho in Kissimmee.

Lake Toho who’s your daddy

Daniel Lanier Jr. Winter Springs, Florida (has fished in five previous Southern Open tournaments and finished seventh in last at Harris Chain targeting eelgrass patches) in the lead in a blaze of glory had four decent bites and one little bite to add up to 27-11 on the first day of Southern Open on Lake Toho. What a great way to start the tournament off bringing in the Carhart Big Bass leader at 9-11. Tracy Adams Wilkesboro, North Carolina (qualified for the 2013 Bassmaster Classic by way of the Southern Open) galloped in to second place with 18-7 and 6 ounces behind Adams, Todd Auten Lake Wylie, South Carolina and Elite Series Pro Derek Remitz grant, Alabama both came to weigh in and third place with 18-1.

Didn’t have to steal to win

Micheal Murphy Lexington, South Carolina (graduated from Purdue University with a Fishery Biologist degree and fished on the Purdue College Fishing team) caught one off a bed, flippin’ and pitchin matted flats, in fifth place with 17-6.

Sixth place-Brandon Lester Fayetteville, Tennessee 16-14

Seventh-Jamey Caldwell Carthage, North Carolina and Skip Johnson Wales, Michigan 16-9

Ninth-Darell Pons Gainesville, Florida 16-8

Tenth-Will Evans 16-5
