Why the wishes?

The story of Delaney Brown or Laney as she is known to her friends, is one which tugs at the heart strings. Over the last few weeks people have been following the little girls battle with a rare form of leukemia on her family's Facebook page, "Team Laney." Laney has only a few more days or weeks to live and had some wishes she hoped to have answered. On Friday December 19th she has the first of those wishes answered when she came home from the hospital in order to celebrate her 8th birthday as well her last Christmas season.

Her story recently caught national attention through the social media as thousands sought to help her fulfill another of final those wishes which was to meet Taylor Swift.

Laney had originally asked the Make a Wish Foundation for a Disney Cruise but with her deteriorating health she instead asked them if she could meet Taylor Swift.

It took a little while but according to the Reading Eagle and the "Team Laney," Facebook page, run by her family and supporters, Laney spoke via video to the superstar who grew up in Wyomissing. The post went online about 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

According to the "Team Laney" Facebook page the family thanked Swift for, "taking time out from her family to make Laney's birthday very memorable. We will hold that memory in our hearts forever.”

On Saturday night Laney got another one of her wishes fulfilled when an estimated crowd of ten thousand or more people gathered in front of and near Laney's house in order to sing Christmas carols to the little girl. the crowds started to gather before 6 P.M. and kept building over the next hour.

Laney was to sick to come out of the house but a photo on her Facebook page with a thumbs up and the words, "I can hear you," was a sign she could at least hear the chorus of voices outside.
