WWD announced today that designers Isabel and Ruben Toledo are teaming with plus size retailer Lane Bryant for a capsule collection. This collaboration is a first for the plus size retailer since new CEO Linda Heasley took over a few months back.
Isabel Toledo shot to fame when she made the lemongrass color suit that first lady Michelle Obama wore at the president’s Inauguration in 2009. Cuban-American Isabel Toledo has worked under her own label since 1985 except for one year where she worked at Anne Klein (2006).
The Toledo’s and Lane Bryant collaboration will start with a T-shirt and tote bag collection featuring Ruben Toledo's fashion sketches that will be in stores for the holidays. A full collection of ready-to-wear will follow in spring 2014.
Lane Bryant’s CEO Linda Heasley told WWD about the collaboration: “We’re looking together at all product categories and nothing is being ruled out as a possibility for inclusion down the road”.
To celebrate the launch of the Spring collection Lane Bryant is planning a fashion show next year but details have not been released yet.
This is a very big deal for plus size fashion since it is the first high- end designer collaboration of this magnitude.
The collection will be available in stores and online at www.LaneBryant.Com.
