It is with great anticipation that we await the opening of the 2013 exhibition by the Creative Women of Color group. The theme for this year’s exhibit is Landscapes of Our Minds.
The location for the exhibit is the Shot Tower Gallery at the Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center. The address is 546 Jack Gibbs Boulevard, Columbus, OH 43215. The opening reception is on Tuesday, March, 5, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can learn more about this group of artists at www.creativewomenofcolor.com.
These artists are highly talented, with a diverse range of styles and subjects. The artists range in age from relatively young to those with extensive life experience. The quality of the art shown in 2012 was uniformly excellent and the new art will duplicate this same quality for 2013.
A slideshow of selected art and artists from the 2012 exhibit is located at http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/creative-women-of-color-art-exhibit.
The theme provides a panoramic view into the vision of the artists. There will be tapestry, ceramics, photographs and paintings along with other artistic media. One of the members of this group is also a member of the spiritualist community. Ruth Maclin sees the world through energetic eyes.
The subject matter in many of these pieces of art reflects the spiritual values held by the artists. Family is a common theme, with special recognition to parents and mentors of the artists. The spiritual influence of the community is reflected in the eyes of both the artists and their creations. The photograph of the group shows a comradeship and good energy shared among the artists.
This show is part of a larger exhibition at the Shot Tower Gallery entitled Creating Our History by the Creative Arts of Women (CAW). The reception for Creating Our History is on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. You can receive more information about the CAW exhibitions and activities at www.cawcolumbus.com.
