Landon Donovan was the player of the game as the LA Galaxy defeated the Philadelphia Union 4-1 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Donovan shined by scoring two goals against the Union and also assisted the first goal in which Brazilian defender Leonardo made.

As reported, the Galaxy defeated the Union on Sunday evening with an outstanding performance by Landon Donovan. With this performance, Donovan broke the all-time record for scoring the most goals by a player in the MLS league, 136 goals.

In the first two minutes of the game, the LA Galaxy scored on a set piece. Donovan took the kick as the ball sailed into the center of the box where defender Leonardo defeated the Union’s defense and headed the ball past Philadelphia’s goalkeeper.

The second goal came in the 50th minute when Donovan made a run with the ball and passed it to Irish forward Robbie Keane. The Irish player dribbled the ball into Philadelphia’s box and centered a grounder back to Donovan. Landon tapped the ball into the net as the pass had already defeated Philadelphia’s goalkeeper.

The third goal was made by Keane as the Union made a defensive mistake. Keane stole the ball and had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Keane ended the play by shooting the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs.

The last goal for the LA Galaxy was made by Donovan when he and Keane made a few passes to each other. In the last touch, Donovan faked a Union defender inside the box and rifled the ball into the net.

The last goal for the Galaxy was Donovan’s record breaking goal. Donovan now holds the record for having the most goals scored by a player in the MLS league. This feat serves as a message to the USMNT coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, who decided to cut Donovan from the US squad earlier this week.

The Union managed to get a penalty kick at the very end of the game. The consolation goal was made by Maurice Edu who was also cut from the USMNT squad.

Landon Donovan was held as the player of the game in the match against the Philadelphia Union. His performance with the LA Galaxy against the Union was one of many that has made who Donovan is as a player. Perhaps, the USMNT coach might have made a huge mistake by not including one of America’s best soccer player ever in the US squad to play in the World Cup in a few weeks.
