Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez of the LA Galaxy have been elected to play with the MLS Fan XI in Portland on August 6. The game is set to be played at the Providence Park in Oregon. Also, the MLS All-Stars elected by the fans will be facing the German Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich.

As reported, this MLS All-Star game will be Donovan’s 14th consecutive time which happens to be a league record. That’s right, Donovan has not been absent from an all-star game for the MLS since 2001.

Donovan is known for being the all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the MLS. The Galaxy captain accomplished this goal earlier this year when he scored his 137th goal, which broke Jeff Cunningham’s record. Landon Donovan also has five MLS titles under his belt, two with the San Jose Earthquakes, where he started his career, and three with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

As for Omar Gonzalez, his inclusion into the all-star team this year will be his fourth. Gonzalez was voted as the MLS Rookie of the Year in 2009. He was also the Defender of the Year for the 2011 season. Gonzalez has three MLS titles with the LA Galaxy and was also part of the US Men’s National Team at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil earlier this summer.

The announcement of the MLS All-Stars was made earlier on Wednesday by the MLS and Donovan and Gonzalez were part of the team. The all-stars are selected via internet by the fans themselves.

As for the opponent, FC Bayern Munich is the current German champion. Bayern is considered to be the Yankees of the German Bundesliga. They have most titles held in Germany. Two years ago, Bayern Munich became the UEFA Champions League title holders, which is basically the same as being the champions of Europe.
