Landmark La Jolla gallery founder to present at 2012 Art Show

The 2012 Los Angeles Art Show has expanded to become three shows in one. The traditional fine art fair will take place alongside a contemporary art fair as well as an exhibition of prints and posters. La Jolla gallery owner José Tasende is ideally qualified to share his knowledge about all three categories and will be part of an expert panel this Saturday at 2 p.m. His role in the program “The Emergence of Los Angeles as an Art Center” confirms what most San Diego art collectors already know -- that San Diego and Santa Barbara are considered L.A. suburbs in the art world. While San Diego’s museums excel on their own, the benefits of the world class arts community in Los Angeles make San Diego even better and make this topic and the exhibitions at the 2012 Los Angeles Art Show essential knowledge for San Diego art insiders.

The Tasende Gallery was founded in La Jolla when it was one of the few international art destinations in Southern California, in 1979. It rose to national prominence by presenting exhibitions and organizing museum shows for three world renowned sculptors, Henry Moore, Auguste Rodin, and Eduardo Chillida. The gallery steadily added works by select contemporary artists such as Wayne Thiebaud, Keith Haring, and Fernando Botero. High quality limited edition prints and drawings round out its large selection and supported an expansion with the opening of a West Hollywood Gallery in 1997.

Tasende’s talk is just one more reason to plan your day trip to the 2012 Los Angeles Art Show on Saturday. The complete program will provide a valuable update for all art collectors and museum planners. At 1 p.m., Designer Suzanne Lovell will explain how to create an ideal environment for displaying art. At 3 p.m., a panel of four experts will discuss the reemergence of realism as an important theme in the art world. At 5 p.m. there will be a unique presentation and discussion of prominent private art collections at booth G68. The busy events program will still leave some time to see art for sale by galleries across the U.S and from a dozen foreign countries. There will also be an entire pavilion devoted to art from China, presenting “Classic Collection of Buddhist Paintings,” a retrospective of 76 works by master brush painter Xia Jingshan. There will also be a replica of the Qing Dynasty reading room of Jiang Bin, a format similar to the popular replica of a Chinese landscape at the Huntington Library in Pasadena.
