Landlord whipped tenant for rent? News coming out of Ohio on Thursday (Feb. 21) states an Ohio landlord whipped a tenant for falling behind on his rent. According to a report on the incident, Ron Kronenberger has been charged for assault and was set to appear in court in Warren County later on Thursday.
The dispute in this case was reported by police to be over $2,800 in rent that the tenant owed. Police in the small village of Waynesville stated that Kronenberger allegedly took a belt to the tenant when rent wasn't paid. The police even have a quote from the landlord who stated, "If you're going to act like a child, I'm going to treat you like one."
The belt did leave marks on the tenant after he was struck with it four times. As for the ages of the people involved, the landlord is reportedly 53 and the tenant was said to be 29 years old. The most intriguing news from the incident is that the tenant originally submitted to the whipping because "he was scared and just wanted to get it over with."
That this landlord whipped his tenant rather than taking the rent-dispute to court could possibly wind up with him in jail if the courts decide that's what is applicable here.
