Landlord rents house missing walls and a floor

A tenant claims she was duped into renting a house from Property Management Services in Oklahoma City that is missing walls and a floor. According to a report dated Feb. 28 from KWTV Channel 9 News in Oklahoma City, Yvetta Howard was not permitted to see the entire house when she rented it.

Yvetta Howard is having to live in the house that is leaky, drafty and has plumbing problems. She doesn't have the money to move and Property Management Services will not fix the problems.

“I don't understand why anyone would rent a house without seeing all of it,” Tanya Lane, a renter from Oklahoma City, said. “The landlord must have something to hide or they would have let her see the entire house.”

The manager of Property Management Services says that the floors and the walls are the tenant's responsibility. They claim that Yvetta Howard rented the house as is and they do not have to fix the problems.

“I would think it would depend on what the lease says as to who is actually responsible,” Lane continued. “If the lease says 'as is' and the tenant is responsible and she signed it, I think she'd be stuck. On the other hand, there might be laws forcing landlords to only rent homes that are liveable.”

Yvetta Howard has asked Property Management Services for the supplies to fix the home, but they have yet to get those materials to her. She is willing to do the work herself.

If Property Management Services will not get her the supplies to repair the house herself or make the repairs themselves, Yvetta Howard wants her money back so she can move to home that has walls and a floor.

At the time of publication, Yvetta Howard's rental home had yet to be repaired. It was also unknown what, if anything, Property Management Services would be doing to correct the problems.
