According to Friday's WLOS News, a Canton, N.C., man is accused of shooting his tenant's small dog in the face.
An eyewitness claims to have witnessed 71-year-old Lewin Devoe Burrell shoot the small terrier, named "Romeo," from his car. Romeo survived the shot to his face, but he suffered serious injuries, including several shattered and broken teeth.
On Wednesday, Romeo was rushed to County Lane Animal Hospital where Veterinarian David Mckracken stabilized the little dog and then performed oral surgery.
Romeo's guardian, Jacob Woods, is shocked that anyone would target the friendly pup - he told WLOS News:
"He's never bitten anyone, doesn't bark at anyone. He was just the nicest little puppy. That makes it all the more terrible because I know he wouldn't do anything to provoke this kind of action,"
He hopes to see Burrell, who is facing a felony animal cruelty charge, fully prosecuted for what he did.
