Celebrating an extraordinary time in automotive history, an impressive collection of performance cars awaited fans at the Land of Lakes Muscle Car Classic.
Though it is headlined by the Land of Lakes GTO Club, the Pontiac fans are a welcoming bunch. Indeed they love their Goats, but you can’t help but appreciate all the vintage Detroit iron, especially when parked in unison.
Being the 50th Anniversary of the first original muscle car from ‘64, there were plenty of GTO models of every year on hand. Just next to those Pontiacs were cool rides from different brands. Take for instance a 1969 Dodge Daytona Charger Hemi, replete with race-track wing and nose-cone. Or how about a sinister black Ford Mustang Boss 429? The large car performance crowd was thoroughly pleased with a white ’62 Chevy Bel Air 409 with dual-quads and a 4-speed.
There were big displacement motors everywhere you turned, from 383 and 440 Mopars to 396 and 427 Chevy rats. 455 cubic-inchers from both Pontiac and Buick made their throaty exhaust tones known. Many high-revving small blocks were in the field, especially first-gen Z28 models.
The show is covered by Muscle Car Review, one of our favorite magazines. We spotted contributing writer and photographer Arvid Svendsen shooting pics, but left him to his duties.
The show was held at Larry Reid’s Arrow Buick GMC dealership in Inver Grove Heights. Its vast parking lot makes for the perfect setting for supporting a car show, as over 300 vehicles came to proudly strut their stuff.
