Lance Cpl. Caleb Erickson killed in Helmand Province

Early this morning, Mar. 3, 2014, the Department of Defense announced the death of Lance Cpl. Caleb Erickson, a Marine who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. Erickson, 20, of Waseca, Minn., was killed in the fight Feb. 28, while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province.

The Camp Lejeune Marine was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

The Pentagon has not released any information regarding other Marines who might have been injured in this incident.

The death of Lance Cpl. Erickson brings to 2,175 the number of U.S troops who have died in Afghanistan since the war began.
