Lance Armstrong, seven time Tour de France champion, may need surgery after crashing his bike on Monday during the first stage of a race in northern Spain. Armstrong suffered a broken collarbone. This is the first time Armstrong has suffered this injury in his 17 years of professional cycling.
According to a CNN report, Armstrong was taken to Clinico Universitario Hospital in Valladolid after the accident which involved at least twenty other riders. Armstrong was apparently the only rider injured during the incident. Armstrong will return to the United States to pursue further treatment for the injured arm. The accident will most likely prevent Armstrong from participating in the upcoming Giro d'Aitalia and may affect his high hopes for winning the upcoming Tour de France". "I'm miserable," said Armstrong after the crash.
Armstrong recently came out of retirement to begin training for his eighth Tour de France which begins in July. At 37, if Armstrong has his way he will be the oldest cyclist ever to win the race.
