Like him or not, Lance Armstrong's steady departure from the pro peloton will leave a void. He's brash, he's opinionated and at his best he had rare company on the bike.
The United States still has a good stable of riders in the mix, and there are stars on the near horizon and on the distant horizon to "carry-the-torch."
Tyler Farrar has won more than two-dozen bike races in his young career. And in the younger generation, there's Taylor Phinney and Tejay van Garderen.
But will any of them develop Armstrong's savvy ways? Do anyone of them want the spotlight role Armstrong so embraced? It'll all play out in a few years.
In the meantime, the National Cycling Examiner's vote, goes to a kindergarten kid, Jackson Goldstone, who's already "having good sensations" on the bike. As the cliche goes, "his future is ahead of him." All he needs is pedals.

This begs the question: does his mother know what her kindergartener is doing? It's frightening to see a youngster alone.
