There is still time to register for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s (JDRF) Lancaster Walk to Cure Diabetes. The Walk is a great way to show your support for all those living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and to raise funds for JDRF, which is the leading global organization, focused on T1D research. It will once again be held at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Sunday, 1 June.

The goal for the Lancaster walk is $60,700 this year and is one of several walks statewide. The 1.4 mile walk is scheduled early in the day, before the Lancaster Barnstormers game. Registration is 10:30 a.m. with the walk beginning at 11:30 a.m. The Clipper Stadium is located at 650 North Prince Street, Lancaster.

You can sign up individually or as a team with your work or friends and family. Want to walk but the time or date does not fit your schedule? Be a “virtual walker.”

The average participant raises $100 but there is no maximum. There is also no minimum pledge or registration either. The pledges are all flat donations and are tax deductible. Those raising $100 or more will receive a t-shirt.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin.

The National Presenting Co-Sponsors of the 2014 JDRF Walk series are Medtronic and Lilly Diabetes. Elite Partners are Advanced Auto Parts, Ford Motor Company, Marshalls, and Walgreens.

Before beginning a walking or running routine, please seek the medical advice of your physician. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of diabetes, make an appointment with your physician.
