Lancaster’s Mike Janis earned his second NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series win of the season Monday at the prestigious Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. The event was the seventh of 10 races on the 2013 schedule for the series.
Janis beat series points leader Rickie Smith in the final round to earn the second Wally of his career and first at Indy. Janis’ Valvoline Camaro made a pass of 5.952 seconds at 241.41 mph to best Smith’s 5.955-second run at 241.37 mph.
Janis earned early-round wins over Jimmy Widener, Kenny Lang and Kevin Rivenbark to advance to the finals against Smith.
Janis jumped from sixth to third in Pro Mod points with the win, while Smith was able to maintain his points lead.
The NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series returns to the track Friday through Sunday, September 13th through 15th at zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina, as part of the Carlyle Tools NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by NAPA Auto Parts. Keep up with the latest NHRA news at www.nhra.com.
