Lancaster’s Janis wins NHRA Pro Mod event in Houston

Lancaster native Mike Janis earned the third NHRA Pro Mod Series victory of his career on Sunday, beating Al-Anabi Racing’s Mike Castellana in the finals of the NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, near Houston.

Janis’ Valvoline ’12 Camaro beat Castellana’s ’13 Camaro, who won the season-opening Pro Mod event at Gainesville, with a 5.927-second pass at 244.56 mph. Janis, the No. 5 qualifier, defeated Dan Stevenson, Ron Muenks and Steve Matusek to reach the final round against Castellana.

Castellana defeated Mike Knowles, Kevin Fiscus and Danny Rowe on his way to the finals.

Castellana (208) has a 37-point lead on Janis (171) in the NHRA Pro Mod points standings after two events. Rickie Smith (151) sits third in points, followed by Danny Rowe (150) and Steve Matusek (126).

The NHRA Pro Mod Series gets back on track Friday through Saturday, May 16th through 18th as part of the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Georgia. Keep up with the action at
