It is almost time for the Lancaster Red Rose Run! This annual run takes runners, and walkers alike, through Binn’s Park and the City down through the County Park and back. This year publicity for the five mile run will be handled through the Mayor’s Office of Special Events (MOOSE). The run itself is scheduled for Saturday, 7 June.

April runs

The Donegal Baseball-Softball Association will hold a 5K on Sunday, 6 April in Marietta. The race, which will begin and end at the Marietta War Memorial Park, will travel through the streets downtown. The course is flat for the most part. There is one hill to end the race and one water station at the half-way point. Awards will be given on the Ball Fields, weather permitting. Throughout the day players from the baseball, softball, and T-ball teams will be handing out water. Registration is $25 with shirt if postmarked by 19 March. That same day, raising awareness for child sexual abuse, is the Run With Courage 5K in Millersville. This first annual event is a fundraiser to support the Lancaster County Children's Alliance community and professional education programs. It will be held rain or shine on Sunday, 6 April from noon to 3 p.m. at Penn Manor High School, 100 East Cottage Avenue, Millersville. The run itself begins at 1 p.m. There will also be a Kids’ Fun Run at 2:15 p.m. Register online by clicking here. Registration is $30. The Kids’ Fun Run is $10.

The Garden Spot Village Marathon will be held 12 April. This annual event is a USA Track & Field-certified Boston Marathon qualifier course and half-marathon track. The marathon benefits the Garden Spot’s Benevolent Fund. The race will start at 433 South Kinzer Avenue, New Holland. Races begin at 8 a.m. For more information, go to

Capital BlueCross is presenting the Hershey 10K Race in April but registration is limited. A portion of the proceeds benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Pennsylvania and other local charities. The 2,500 runners will run through Hershey Park. In addition to the Park, Hershey Gardens, Hershey's Chocolate World Attraction, The Hershey Story Museum will also be open! The run is scheduled for Sunday, 13 April. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. Registration is currently $40 and includes a race t-shirt, a finisher’s medal, bib with timing device and refreshments afterwards.

The 22nd Annual Sauder’s Egg Run/Walk/Ride will be Saturday, 19 April in Lititz. There will be a 5K walk, a five mile run and a 25 and 10 mile ride. The races begin at the Lititz Fire Company, on West Main Street. Pre-register by 11 April for a t-shirt and discounted registration

May runs

Registration is now open for Shadey’s Rugged Run. The run will be held on Saturday, 3 May at Lancaster Bible College (LBC), 901 Eden Road. This is a 3.5 mile mud/obstacle course. Runners will race in waves through water, fire and walls, as well as mud. Early registration is $75 and closes on Wednesday, 16 April. The proceeds will benefit LBC’s Athletic Department and the Penn State Hershey Children’s Miracle Network.

Friends of Angels will hold Kat’s 5K Family Run/Walk in Strasburg on Saturday, 10 May. It will benefit the Sweet Pea Project which provides support and gentle guidance to families who have experienced the loss of a child. The event will begin, and end, at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 40 West Main Street. Early registration is $25. To register with Pretzel City Sports, click here.

The Never Forget 5K will remember first responders on 10 May at the Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike. The 5K will stretch out through farmlands, beginning and ending at the Worship Center. The annual race recalls those who perished on 9-11. The 5K begins at 8:46 a.m., which is the time that Flight 11 hit the North Tower. The one mile walk will begin at 9:03 a.m., which is when the second plane, Flight 175, hit the South Tower that fateful morning. Registration is $28 for the 5K and $28 for the walk. The Run for Hope will be 10 May at the Smoketown Airport. The 5K will benefit Hope International. All racers will be provided with a free breakfast. Registration is $20 before 19 April. After that, the registration is $25. Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 9:35 a.m. and will last one hour. Fore more information, go to

The 4th annual Deez Run will be Saturday, 10 May at the Cherry Crest Adventure Farm. The farm, known for its corn maze, is located at 150 Cherry Hill Road, Ronks. The race is in memory of Danielle DeLarso, who lost her fight to cancer in 2011 during her senior year at Pequea Valley High School. The proceeds from the race go to a scholarship fund in her name. The Manheim Rock-N-Glow 5K is scheduled for Saturday, 31 May. Last year was the first race and it had over 1,500 racers. The event is an evening event held on the Market Square downtown. The evening festivities begin at 6 p.m. with live music and entertainment. The race itself steps off at 9 p.m. Registration is $25 for those 15 and older. Younger runners are $15. June runs

The Lancaster Red Rose Run, as mention, will be Saturday, 7 June. The five mile run begins at 8 a.m. There will also be a wheelchair race at 7:55 a.m. and a kids run at 9:30 a.m. The kids run is a fun run designed for youth age 10 and under and is about a mile and a half. You may also register as a team with a minimum of three people. Register by 23 May to receive your official Red Rose Run t-shirt. Nearly 50 awards – medals and monetary – will be awarded for the top finishers.

The Bird-in-Hand Half Marathon is scheduled for Friday, 5 September and Saturday, 6 September. The half marathon has a limit of 1600 runners and sold out last year! Friday night there will a Kids’ Fun Run and a 5K and a pasta dinner. Saturday the half marathon steps off at 7:30 a.m. On Saturday there will also be a Hot Air Balloon race. The proceeds of the events go to the Bird-in-Hand Fire Company. For more information, and to register, go to

The Hands on House Half Marathon will be held Saturday, 27 September. Sign up now for the 11th annual race. You may choose either the 5K, 10K or a USATF certified half marathon. The runs will begin and end at the Hands on House, 721 Landis Valley Road, in Manheim Township. Registration closes the day prior to the race and ranges from $25 to $50.
