Lancaster City Morning Buzz: Thursday, 23 January

Lancaster is still picking up the pieces from our recent storm. The current cold though brings new concerns, especially for those seeking shelter. St. James Episcopal Church, 119 North Duke Street, is now a warming station from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., according to the Lancaster Winter Women’s Shelter.

Lancaster Country Day School and Lancaster Catholic High are operating under a two hour delay today. The School District of Lancaster (as of 5 a.m.) remains on time.

Today is the Mid Year Student Recognition at Carter & MacRae Elementary School. There is also a SIP/PAC Breakfast at Washington Elementary at 8:15 a.m.; an International Dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Wharton Elementary School; and a PTO/PAC Meeting at 6 p.m. at the Wickersham Elementary School.

Character’s Pub and the Lancaster Brewing Company are jointly offering a four-course beer and cocktail dinner tonight! Cocktails made with Lancaster Brewing Company's signature beers will be paired with four courses of Characters' signature cuisine. Dinner is $45 a person. Tickets are now on sale for many exciting events at the Ware Center, North Prince Street. Upcoming events include: Allegro Chamber Orchestra on 23 January; a play titled “Humble Honor Witness to Gettysburg” on 25 January; An Evening of Chamber Music on 31 January; the FamFunFest on 1 February; and the day long Red Rose & Shamrock Irish Music Festival on Saturday, 8 February.

The Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival is almost here. Do you have your tickets yet? This is probably the area’s largest music festival! Featuring a variety of Blues, Folk, Jazz, Bluegrass, Funk & Soul, Zydeco, Polka, Rock n'Roll, and Reggae, this Festival has something for everyone! The Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival will be 21 & 22 February. Five different venues throughout the City will host the various musicians on nine different stages. Speaking of music … Tellus360 is up for the New Venue of the Year award at the Tri State Indie Music Awards! Local artist Mike McMonagle is up for Acoustic st of the Year as well! Congratulations to Lisa Horst with the Horst Group. Horst will serve as president of the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County for 2014. The Preservation Trust is the only volunteer organization in Lancaster County dedicated to protecting the county’s historically significant homes, barns, covered bridges and other structures.
