Spring will officially arrive in Lancaster in just a few hours. Today temperatures should be around 52. Tomorrow and Saturday will be equally nice. Enjoy it though because snow is back in the forecast next week. As usual that means today is Free Ice Day at Rita’s! Spring hours are noon to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and noon to 9:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Rita’s is located at 1951 Lincoln Highway East, next to Amelia’s Grocery Store.
Yesterday Lancaster City Police responded to a residence on the 600 block of West Vine Street for a report of a stabbing that had just occurred, approximately at 10 a.m. The victim had been able to call for help after the assault. Emmanuel Coreano, 26, had stabbed his ex-wife multiple times. The couples’ children had been home at the time but were not injured. After a brief hunt, officers were able to apprehend Coreano near the entrance of the County Park on Conestoga Street. Coreano faces attempted homicide charges.
Franklin & Marshall will hold a discussion on the “Crisis in Crimea” today at 4:30 p.m. on the escalating crisis in Crimea. The discussion will be held at the Ware College House and is open to the public. Speakers will include Professors Abby Schrader (History), Jon Stone (Russian), and Jennifer Kibbe (Government). The trio will offer their historical, linguistic, and policy insights
The one-man play starring Tom Wiggin, "Remarkable Radical The Life and Times of Thaddeus Stevens," will be performed at the Ware Center, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for general admission and can be purchased at www.MUTicketsOnline.com. The Ware Center is located at 42 North Prince Street.
The Willie Marble Xperience will perform Thursday at Tellus360. Show starts at 8 p.m. Cover charge is $10. Tellus360 is located at 24 East King Street.
"Young Frankenstein" will be performed this month at the Fulton Theatre . Evening shows are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Matinees will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Fulton is located at 12 N. Prince Street.
The Lancaster County Young Artists Exhibition is an annual juried show featuring hundreds of works by students in grades 7-12. Selected artwork is then displayed at Demuth Museum, 120 E. King Street, is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
Local artist Diane La Fontaine’s reflections of rocks, rivers and stream beds will be displayed at the Artisan Gallery, 114 N. Prince Street, this month. The Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
“Folklore” will be the featured exhibit at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) through 18 April. The contemporary works of art by Amy Cutler, Clare Grill, Clare Rojas and others will be featured during the month long exhibit. An Open House will be held on 22 March for interested prospective students. PCA&D is handicapped accessible. The school is located at 204 N Prince Street.
Dr. Naila Al Atrash will speak today at F&M College for the International Women’s Week Keynote Address. Sponsored by the Alice Drum Women’s Center, the address will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Center. The event is open to the public.
Single game tickets for the Lancaster Barnstormers are now available. Stop by Clipper Stadium on Prince Street today to get your tickets. The first home game is scheduled for 1 May.
Get out your calendars and save these dates! Lancaster Restaurant Week is next week. Also, the Second Annual Lancaster Roots & Blues is slated for Friday, 6 February and Saturday, 7 February, 2015. For a limited time, you can reserve your tickets early at just $85 for both days.
