Is getting fit your New Year Resolution? The Lancaster YMCA will hold an Open House on Saturday, 11 January. Tour the facility, talk to the fitness trainers, and check it out for yourself. The Lancaster branch of the YMCA is located at 265 Harrisburg Avenue.

Spend the rainy day inside being crafty! The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen has several sold out workshops today. The workshops are:Crochet Rag Rugs, Basics of Encaustic, All About Seams, and Handbuilding with Clay. To register for future classes, call 717-431-8706.

Sugarcoat returns to the Village tonight. The local rock band will perform this evening at the Village Nightclub, located at 205 N Christian Street.

Many Lancastrians may head up to Harrisburg today for the 98th Pennsylvania Farm Show. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation and runs through Saturday, 11 January. It is held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free and parking is $10. Visit for details.

The United Way is looking for over 100 volunteers. United Way’s MLK Day of Service provides opportunities to respond to Dr. King’s call to service. There are 13 projects available throughout Lancaster County. To register for volunteer projects, please go to, click “Get Connected”, then click the tab that says “2014 MLK Day of Service.”

A flood watch is in effect today for several counties, including Lancaster. Today’s expected heavy rainfall is only part of the reason. The ice jamming on the Susquehanna River, while beautiful, could add to the area floods. The flood watch is in effect through 7 p.m. Sunday, 12 January.
