Lancaster City Morning Buzz: McCaskey senior gains naval appointment

Congratulations to McCaskey senior Clay Verkouw on his appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Congressman Joe Pitts stopped by the high school this week to congratulate Verkouw. The Academy is in Annapolis, MD.

Marquice Gatewood, 22 of Lancaster, was one of three men arrested Wednesday after a car stop in Todd County, Kentucky. A deputy stopped the car for speeding and found Gatewood to have felony charges out of state, according to the Kentucky New Era.

Nicole Atkins will perform at Tellus360 tonight. She will take the stage at 8 p.m. The cover charge is $15. Tellus360 is located at 24 East King Street.

Music for Everyone (MFE) will hold a benefit concert and silent auction at the Elk’s Lodge. Admission for the event will be by donation. The event runs 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The Elk’s Lodge is located at 219 North Duke Street.

Grab your dancing shoes! Buddy Holly comes alive at the Fulton Theatre. Tonight is the official Opening Night. All three of these performances begin at 7:30 p.m. The show continues through 11 May.

The Lancaster Barnstormers are in Texas to face the Sugar Land Skeeters. Both teams are in the Freedom Division of the Atlantic League. The next time the Barnstormers will be home is 1 May.

Lancaster Public Works is continuing the flushing of the water distribution system. The flushing will be done from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. through 30 May. If your water appears cloudy, let it run for a moment. If the problem continues, call the Water Quality Lab at 717-291-4818.
