Lancaster City Morning Buzz: Mayor Gray begins 3rd term

Mayor Rick Gray and the 2014 City Council will be sworn in at the inaugural ceremony today in Council Chambers at the Southern Market Center, 100 South Vine Street. Temperatures will drop throughout the day. This morning however is warm and humid as kids make their way to school at their regular time. When coming into the City this morning avoid the area of Orange and Prince Streets. WGAL-TV reported police activity in that area.

The School District of Lancaster will begin at regular time today (as of 5:30 a.m.). There will be a PTO meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Hamilton Elementary. A PAC Meeting will also be held at Hamilton Elementary. That meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Try a yoga session at Tellus360 this evening. Tellus360 is located at 24 E King Street. Classes this week are at 6 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Learn how to knit at the Library. This free session is held every Monday at 6:30 p.m. and is for children and teens. Register online here. The Lancaster Public Library is located at 125 North Duke Street.

The Sophie Stargazer Boutique is closed today. They are in New York picking out the finest fashions to bring home. The shop will re-open Friday at 10 a.m. with its regular hours. The Boutique is located at 149 East King Street.

Many Lancastrians may head up to Harrisburg today for the second day of the 98th Pennsylvania Farm Show. Yesterday, a Lancaster County teen got engaged during the PA High School Rodeo at the Farm Show. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation and runs through Saturday, 11 January. It is held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free and parking is $10. Visit www.farmshow.state.pa.us for details.

Congratulations to Ellwood City native Jon K. Miles. Miles has been named president of EHD, one of the country’s largest independent insurance brokers. The Ellwood City Ledger reports that Miles had been regional vice president and will begin this new position immediately.
