A freezing rain advisory is in effect for the Lancaster area until 3 p.m. today. We are expected to see a period of snow and freezing rain mixture sometime before noon today. As the day warms up to an expected high of 38, the rain will continue through the remainder of the day and into tomorrow.

The severe weather also took its toll on blood donations. The American Red Cross is holding a blood donation drive tomorrow (Friday, 10 January) at Park City Center from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. All types are needed and appreciated but the Red Cross especially needs O negative and B negative. Enjoy a “2nd Cup of Coffee” this morning with the School District of Lancaster. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Prince Street Café, 15 North Prince Street.

The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry will present “How to Leave Your Business in Style.” The presentation will be held at 9 a.m. today at the Southern Market Center. The program will feature Donald Feldman of Keystone Business Transition and Thomas Bergen of Hartman Underhill & Brubaker, LLC.

Tonight at 9 p.m. jam with Herbie at TellUs360. Doors open at 9 p.m. and the cover charge is $5. Herbie is billed as the area’s “premiere jam band.” TellUs360 is located at 24 East King Street. While there check out the Juried Landscape Show upstairs in Gallery360.

Hartman Underhill & Brubaker, LLC has announced Kim R. Smith, of Manheim Township, has been named managing partner. Smith joined the firm in 1995. She specializes in employment and school law. She volunteers with the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Lancaster County Community Foundation and Leadership Lancaster. The firm is located at 221 East Chestnut Street. It also has a branch in Ephrata.

Many Lancastrians may head up to Harrisburg today for the 98th Pennsylvania Farm Show. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation and runs through Saturday, 11 January. It is held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free and parking is $10. Visit www.farmshow.state.pa.us for details.

An antiquated water main in West Chestnut Street between College Avenue and Prince Street will be replaced. The replacement of the Chestnut Street water main is slated to begin mid-January and is expected to take five months. There will be traffic restrictions and changes in traffic patterns during this time.

The United Way is looking for over 100 volunteers. United Way’s MLK Day of Service provides opportunities to respond to Dr. King’s call to service. There are 13 projects available throughout Lancaster County. To register for volunteer projects, please go to www.LiveUnitedLancaster.org/VolunteerCenter, click “Get Connected”, then click the tab that says “2014 MLK Day of Service.”

Wednesday evening residents of Conestoga felt a small quake at 9:02 p.m. The quake was a 1.8, according to the USGS, and was 3.1 km deep.
