Lancaster City Morning Buzz: Freezing rain expected

Grab your umbrella and some slip-proof shoes today if you head out. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory until 4 p.m. today. The freezing rain is expected late this morning and early afternoon. Roads and untreated surfaces may be icy. If driving into the City, remember bridges and overpasses freeze first.

Despite the freezing temperatures, it is never too early to dream about summer. Just imagine days spent poolside and Sunday evenings spent in Long’s Park at the free summer music series! The programming committee for the music series would like your input. Visit their Facebook Page to leave your suggestions.

Learn the art of Irish set dancing at Tellus360 on today. Set dancing is akin to square dancing. Dress comfortable. Classes are $7 each and tickets can be purchased at the store within Tellus360. While there, visit Gallery360 for a Juried Landscape Show. The Gallery360 is located on the second floor of Tellus360, located at 24 East King Street.

Many Lancastrians may head up to Harrisburg today for the second day of the 98th Pennsylvania Farm Show. Yesterday, a Lancaster County resident took first place in the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest. Dorothy Martin, of Conestoga, became a second time winner of the contest with her Caramel Apple pie with an intricate leaf crust. Martin’s daughter Debra Martin Berkoski, of Ephrata, took third place in the contest. Congratulations to both ladies! The Pennsylvania Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the nation and runs through Saturday, 11 January. It is held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center in Harrisburg. Admission is free and parking is $10. Visit www.farmshow.state.pa.us for details.

Global Family provides international education programs to youth. The organization will benefit from tonight’s scheduled Voices of Hope Winter Opera Gala at the Fulton Opera House. The Gala is at 7 p.m. The Fulton is located at 12 North Prince Street. For more information, go to www.voicesofhopeopera.org.
