Lancaster City Morning Buzz: Arctic air chills Lancaster

Bundle up if you plan on heading out this morning. Sub zero temperatures hit the area overnight. At 4:30 a.m. the temperature – not the wind chill but the actual temperature – was a negative three degrees! By 5 a.m. Lancaster had warmed to zero.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the area. An arctic front is passing through which may cause a “flash freeze situation” for Sunday night into Monday morning. Mid week we can expect the coldest it has been in 20 years, according to the NWS.

The freezing temperatures and poor road conditions prompted many galleries to wisely cancel First Friday. However, the galleries expect to be open today, so grab your coat and mittens and maybe a hat too and head to Gallery Row today. Central Market will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. as normal today. The Roaring Brook Market & Café, 155 East King Street, will be open today 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Liz Hess Gallery, The PA Guild of Craftsmen at the Center of American Craft, and the Red Raven Gallery will be opening at 10 a.m. this morning. Hinesite Vintage, at 24 West Walnut Street, will be open today from noon to 5 p.m.

Head over to the West End Yoga Studio, 221 West Walnut Street, at 9 a.m. for an Anusara session. Tellus360 is also holding its regular yoga class this morning at 9:30 a.m. Tellus360 is located at 24 East King Street

Today is also sign up day for the Lancaster Rec’s Teen League Basketball and the Baseball/Softball sign ups. Both run 9 a.m. to noon.

Despite the freezing temperatures, it is never too early to dream about summer. Just imagine days spent poolside and Sunday evenings spent in Long’s Park at the free summer music series! The programming committee for the music series would like your input. Visit their Facebook Page to leave your suggestions.
