LAMILL is one of Los Angeles' top coffee houses, known for their siphon-brewed coffees, classic meets modern atmosphere, and coffee and tea-centered menu. Located on Silver Lake Boulevard, this coffee shop is almost always occupied by the trendy hipsters that inhabit Silver Lake.
Along with brewed coffees and steeped teas, LAMILL's extensive coffee menu also highlights a page for "signature beverages." This special menu may as well be attached to the dessert menu, as each drink featured is phenomenal and dessert-like.
One of my favorite signature drinks is the Creme Brulee Cappuccino, a cappuccino topped with sugar that has been torched. There is no need for additional sugar; it is perfection in a cup and one of the best coffee beverages in Los Angeles. My favorite way to sip this beverage is to slightly crack the top, sip, and repeat the process.
For a warmer day, try the Blanco y Negro ($6.50), a coffee granita with a floating island of Madagascar vanilla bean ice cream. This chilled beverage contrasts the bitter coffee with the sweet ice cream in a yin and yang fashion.
My favorite accompaniment to a beverage at LAMILL is the Not Quite French Toast ($4.50), two slices of caramelized vanilla-cinnamon-sugar brioche toast. Toasted and daintily buttered, this "not quite" French toast is another dessert-like finish to an evening at this exquisite neighborhood refuge.
