February is Lamb Lovers' Month and the American Lamb Board, with aid from Bostonchefs.com, returns to the Boston area on Feb. 17 from 3 to 6 p.m. with Lamb Jam, a major culinary event, bringing together an expanded group of chefs from Boston, Providence and Portland this year.
The celebration of lamb takes place at The Charles Hotel, Cambridge, MA where the chefs' dishes will showcase different cuts of lamb as they vie for the title of Boston Lamb Jam Master and the chance to take on other regional winners at the national Lamb Jam Finale in New York this fall.
Highlights of the event include sampling numerous local beers and wines, sampling the chefs' dishes and enjoying butchery demonstrations. Shepherds Lisa Webster and John Previant will be on hand to discuss raising lamb. A portion of the proceeds of the event will benefit Lovin' Spoonfuls, a Boston-based food rescue organization.
It's the fourth year for the event which this year is broadening its Boston focus to bring in chefs from elsewhere in New England. A pre-event VIP party will offer lamb charcuterie from Portsmouth's Black Trumpet and Somerville, MA's Bergamot, sheep's milk cheeses from Formaggio and Jefferson's Bourbon cocktails from Eastern Standard and Island Creek Oyster Bar's Bar Director Jackson Cannon who is co-owner and bar director of The Hawthorne at the Hotel Commonwealth as well.
