Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and potentially fatal infections (Salmonellosis) in people and animals. Small children, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems are at particular risk. The symptoms of Salmonellosis in humans include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, and headache. Rarely, Salmonellosis can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. People who are experiencing the symptoms of Salmonellosis after having handled any of the recalled products should seek medical attention.
Pets with Salmonellosis may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed any of the recalled products and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.
Consumers should discontinue feeding these treats and are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions may be directed to the company at 800-390-0575 Monday-Friday between 7:30am through 4:00pm PST.
