Lamar Odom's hiring of O.J. lawyer Robert Shapiro wasn't just about his reputation, or even his connection to his wife Khloe's late father Robert Kardashian. Kris Jenner allegedly brokered the deal to get Shapiro to represent Lamar, because he has experience with drug addiction. Shapiro's 24-year-old son Brent sadly died of a drug overdose in 2005, according to TMZ Sports on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Since Robert Shapiro's loss of his son, he's been closely involved with drug addiction charities and foundations. Kris Jenner apparently chose Shapiro for that very reason, especially given Odom's resistance to rehab treatment so far.
Sources say that Lamar's DUI case isn't anything extraordinary, and should likely result in probation and the automatic one-year license suspension for refusing the blood-alcohol tests.
So, Odom's case doesn't necessitate a high-powered criminal attorney such as Shapiro. The reason Jenner sought out his help is to hopefully get Lamar to listen to reason, and enter treatment for his alleged drug addiction.
Rumors are Shapiro wouldn't even agree to take Lamar's case unless he was open to treatment. Of course getting him there is another thing.
