Long before Lamar Odom married Khloe Kardashian, he founded Cathy’s Kids, a charity supposedly devoted to helping fund cancer research. Turns out Cathy’s Kids, founded in 2004, is not living up to its “charitable expectations.”
The Inquisitr reported on April 1 that Lamar Odom and wife Khloe Kardashian may be involved in a scam involving Odom's Cathy’s Kids cancer charity. According to a report, the LA Clipper’s charity has not given a single dollar to any cancer entity in its eight-year history.
The mission statement for Odom’s cancer charity is that it is “committed to help causes that are focused on finding a cure and helping people who suffer from the disease.” Cathy’s Kids has raised approximately $2.2 million since it was founded, and tax documents show that $1.2 million went to fund elite youth basketball travel teams, not to cancer research. In addition, Jerry DeGregorio, the secretary of Cathy’s Kids charity has been paid a $72,000 yearly salary.
According to The Inquisitr report, the charity has been “dormant” for years, but Khloe Kardashian still uses the charity to promote selling her used clothes and accessories on eBay, claiming the money goes to “benefit Cathy’s Kids, a Lamar Odom Foundation.”
When asked about the report that Cathy’s Kids has not given any monetary grants to fund cancer research Odom replied, “It’s my money.” Andrew Bondarowicz, who runs a group that advises athletes about charitable endeavors, said, “It’s not your money…Once the money is put in the charity, it is no longer his [Odom’s] private money.”
