Lamar Odom has been arrested and charged with a DUI. Odom allegedly got arrested early Friday (August 30) on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to a report on the incident, the NBA veteran was taken into custody just before 4 a.m. by the California Highway Patrol.
This is not good news for the free agent, as he has been debating on which team to sign with this offseason. Getting charged with a crime might limit the suitors, though, especially because it could come with some bad publicity. So far this offseason, rumors that the LA Clippers and LA Lakers are interested in the forward have surfaced.
It seems that he got pulled over for driving in a "serpentine manner" while on the San Fernando Valley Freeway. He probably made it worse by continuing to drive when authorities tried to pull him over. After he was unable to perform the field sobriety tests adequately, the officers took him to the Van Nuys jail.
There had been reports earlier in the week that Odom had been using drugs, with ESPN reporting that he was in Los Angeles to deal with a drug problem. That story was refuted by his agent, but this latest story is just going to bring him even more bad press.
Lamar Odom getting arrested could actually hurt him in free agency, as the teams originally looking to sign him might offer less money after all this negative buzz about him.
