The recent Lakewood Church $600,000 heist is raising more questions than answers and the mysterious theft is causing some to claim that it was an inside job. A total of $600,000 in cash and checks, along with information on credit cards, was stolen from the Lakewood Church in Houston on Sunday, according to a statement that church leaders emailed to members of the congregation. As reported by KHOU News, someone allegedly opened the safe in the church, which was discovered by an employee yesterday morning, and stole money, checks and envelopes containing credit card information.

Joel Osteen sent a note to members of his congregation alerting them of the heist and he urged those who had made ​​contributions to the church in those days to monitor their accounts closely for fraud and to notify their financial institutions if they detected anything out of place.

The statement ensured church members that this was not a breach of electronic data, and the theft was limited to donations during services held in these days. The letter regarding the Lakewood Church $600,000 heist read:

"We were heartbroken to learn today that funds were stolen from the church over the weekend. This includes cash, checks and envelopes containing written credit card information, and it is limited only to those funds contributed in the church services on Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9, 2014.The funds were fully insured, and we are working with our insurance company to restore the stolen funds to the church”

A Lakewood Church spokesman, Donald Iloff Jr., told media sources that he could not give further comment on the theft.

"Lakewood Church is working in conjunction with the Houston Police Department to investigate this matter. We do not want to compromise the investigation by commenting at this time," Iloff explained.

It was learned that the massive $600,00 theft allegedly occurred between 2:30 pm Sunday and 8:30 am Monday. Lakewood Church members who are concerned about their donations are asked to call customer service at 713-491-1506.

So far, Osteen has not issued any public comment in regards to the $600,000 heist .

Lakewood Church was founded by John Osteen and his second wife on May 10, 1959 inside an abandoned feed store in northeast Houston. Lakewood Church is a nondenominational Christian megachurch located in Houston, Texas. It is the largest congregation in the United States, averaging more than 43,500 in attendance per week,Wikipedia writes.
