Lakeside Farms seasonal operation sets opening

The Lakeside Farms Country Store & Restaurant is gearing up for its seasonal opening, set for Thursday, April 18.

The Ballston Lake, Saratoga County, store will be open seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m, offering breakfast and lunch as well as farm-fresh produce, bakery and deli items.

Lakeside is a a family-owned operation that has steadily grown and evolved since Robert Pearce purchased it in 1948, mostly for its old barn and the cider press it housed. Soon, Bob, his wife Agnes and their son Dick began making and selling filtered, preserved cider.

They opened a small retail store in 1958. Three years later, they renovated a carriage barn and moved the store there under the name Lakeside Cider Mill & Farm store. They sold fresh vegetables and apple cider and two years later added fresh-baked pies -- they offer 30 varieties these days -- as well as salads and sandwiches. More construction work and a broadening of products sold since then, plus addition of a catering service, eventually led to creation of a  larger indoor dining area by the late 1990s.
