After about a month of speculation and rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers have finally taken a look at veteran free agent point guard Gilbert Arenas. There has been talk of Arenas putting on a workout for teams around the NBA in Los Angeles at some point in the past week, but it appears the once dominant scorer worked out exclusively for the Lakers.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Lakers officials attended a private workout in L.A. on Sunday while the team was playing in Canada against the Toronto Raptors. Fortunately, the Lakers came out on top against Jose Calderon and company with another classic game-winning shot from Kobe Bryant, but along with breaking even on the six-game road trip (3-3 record) the Lakers may have inched closer to bringing in some much needed scoring help.
Apparently, Arenas made a good impression on the Lakers in this workout with slimmed down figure and his explosiveness back to form. There is no telling how the 30-year-old will look once he gets on the floor, but so far thing are looking up for the veteran point guard as the Lakers could take chance of signing him.
Nothing is imminent in terms of the Lakers signing Gilbert Arenas, but with the offense continuing to struggle and a favorable workout in the books the team might try to get him signed before another team in the league swoops him up.
Another aspect that might get the ball moving for the Lakers in this free agent signing is the fact that Kobe Bryant has endorsed the signing of Gilbert Arenas. With Kobe giving his stamp of approval on Arenas and head coach Mike Brown seemingly having no problem with the addition, the Lakeshow could have its newest member to the squad sooner rather than later.
