The news out of the Mile High City is that veteran point guard Andre Miller is unhappy with his role as backup point guard for the Denver Nuggets. Now that Ty Lawson is the starter as the Nuggets’ floor general, 12-year veteran seems to be leaning towards wanting out of Denver in search of being a starter elsewhere.
Throughout his entire career in the NBA, Miller has been a starter with every team he has played for and played well in that role. With Ty Lawson being younger and playing at a high level right now, Nuggets head coach George Karl prefers to have the veteran come off the bench. Even though Karl is a big fan of Miller and has said that he is the smartest player he has ever coached, the Nuggets might consider trading the veteran point guard if given the right offer.
With the recent rib injury to Steve Blake (out 3-4 weeks) and the poor play of longtime starter Derek Fisher, the Los Angeles Lakers might be in the market for Andre Miller. Obviously, with Miller being 35-years-old he is not the ideal candidate for a Lakers team trying to get younger and faster on the perimeter, but he is definitely an upgrade over Fisher and rookie Darius Morris.
This potential trade with the Denver Nuggets could be an opportunity to use the trade exception the team received from the Dallas Mavericks for Lamar Odom. The only problem with that is it would force the Lakers to release a player since they have a full roster of 15. With that being said, Los Angeles might just go for an even swap of players, but it is uncertain who would be dealt.
This season Andre Miller has averaged 9.8 points, 6.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the Denver Nuggets.
