Lakers trade rumors: Should the Lakers target Michael Beasley?

It is no secret that the Los Angeles Lakers are desperate for some new blood whether it is through free agency or via trade. Even though that seems to be the case at this point in time, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak hasn’t done much to acquire any player with a trade or free agent signing. With the NBA trade deadline about a month away (March 15), the ball needs to get rolling in Los Angeles if Kupchak and company have any intention of improving this team moving forward.

There has been no shortage of trade options out there for the Lakers this season with big-names like Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), Deron Williams (New Jersey Nets) and Rajon Rondo (Boston Celtics) potentially up for grabs. Despite that being the case, no substantial trades have been made this season besides the deal sending superstar point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers instead of the Los Angeles Lakers.

At this point in time, the clear weakness in the lineup for the Lakers is at the point guard position. The team has been linked to plenty of point guards around the league like Ramon Sessions (Cleveland Cavaliers) and Kyle Lowry (Houston Rockets) in potential trades, but nothing has come to fruition. Veteran free agents Gilbert Arenas and Allen Iverson have also been linked to the Lakers recently, but the team has been reluctant to sign either troubled former All-Star.

It would be hard to argue that the Lakers don’t need a considerable upgrade in the backcourt right now, but this team could use a similar upgrade at small forward. Metta World Peace isn’t cutting, Devin Ebanks rarely gets on the floor these days and Matt Barnes is mediocre at best. With that being said, a player like Michael Beasley of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be an intriguing option for the Los Angeles Lakers with the NBA trade deadline looming.

Michael Beasley has been somewhat of a problem child in the past, but there is no doubting his talent and ability to light up the scoreboard on a nightly basis. There has been talk of Beasley potentially being on the trading block this season in Minnesota with the Timberwolves having rookie forward Derrick Williams that could slip into the starting role.

This season Michael Beasley is averaging 13.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
