Lakerland has been buzzing with all sorts trade rumors over the past month or so with big-names like Dwight Howard, Kevin Love and even Chris Paul being mentioned as possible targets for the Los Angeles Lakers, but the one player that the storied NBA franchise seems most likely to go after is Denver Nuggets' point guard Raymond Felton.
It is no secret that the Lakers are sorely lacking in the point guard department as veteran Derek Fisher and backup Steve Blake just didn't get the job done last season. With that being said, upgrading the point guard position is a major priority for GM Mitch Kupchak this summer.
There is no question that the Lakers would love to bring in a superstar point guard like Chris Paul or a perennial All-Star like Deron Williams, but it seems like they have narrowed the search for the next starting point guard in Los Angeles to Raymond Felton. Even though Raymond Felton played the backup role in Denver behind Ty Lawson, the former North Carolina Tar Heel was on his way to becoming an All-Star for the first time in his career last season before being traded by the New York Knicks to the Denver Nuggets in the blockbuster deal for Carmelo Anthony.
With Ty Lawson being in the Nuggets' plans for the future at the point guard position moving forward, Raymond Felton is their best bargaining chip right now. Not only has the Los Angeles Lakers shown interest in trading for Felton, but the Sacramento Kings are also reportedly in the running to bring in the six-year veteran point guard.
At just 26-years-old, Raymond Felton still has a lot of basketball left in him and could be the perfect fit in the Lakers' backcourt alongside Kobe Bryant. With just one year left on his deal at $7.5 million, Felton is a hot commodity right now and a player the Lakers would love to bring in as they could just cut their losses after the season if he doesn't work out.
The one player that could be headed out of town as a result of this trade will most likely be Steve Blake.
