Lakers trade rumors might be shocking to many NBA fans. New LA Lakers trade rumors include a Pau Gasol for Andrew Bynum deal being discussed. A report from ESPN on Tuesday morning (Dec. 31) confirms that discussions have taken place between Los Angeles and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
It appears that both teams are mulling over the transaction, with the Cavs looking to improve in the short-term and Los Angeles potentially looking for a way to cut salary. If the team were to acquire Bynum and then waive him, the team could save more than $20 million in salaries and luxury taxes. Bynum doesn't have a guaranteed contract for this season until Jan. 7, giving both teams little time to get something done.
Adding a player like Gasol to the current Cleveland roster might make that team a true contender in the Eastern Conference. Outside of the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers, the East is wide open for a team to step up and start winning some basketball games. The team can also afford the contract of Gasol, but would likely have to give up another asset to make the money work on both ends.
These LA Lakers trade rumors are extremely interesting in fantasy basketball, as a void left by Pau Gasol would create minutes and points for another big man in Los Angeles. Gasol might lose a little value because he would be going to a roster deep at his positions, but he might get the minutes to make those losses in points and rebounds negligible.
