Lakers trade rumors have movement on the Pau Gasol for Andrew Bynum deal. These LA Lakers trade rumors indicate that the deal could be completed on Sunday (Jan. 5), with the two former NBA All-Stars switching franchises. According to a report on ESPN from late Saturday (Jan. 4), the two teams are back on track when it comes to striking a deal.
Recently it had seemed like the discussions stalled between the two franchises, allowing the Utah Jazz to suddenly enter into the talk. The Jazz offered up Richard Jefferson for Bynum and requested no other assets in return. That might have worked for the Cavs, even though the team was more interested in acquiring a difference-maker like Gasol. The problem had been that Los Angeles was requesting another long asset to come over with Bynum and it's possible that the Cavs simply didn't like what player had been requested.
Sources told ESPN that the Cavs want to execute the trade on Sunday, giving very little time for all sides to come to an agreement. This led to new LA Lakers trade rumors that the team had entered into new and reinvigorated talks to get the deal done as soon as possible. The whole idea suggested here is that Los Angeles will acquire Bynum and then release him to save the salary and tax penalties they would be suffering otherwise. Another potential idea, though, is that they play him this year in the hope of making the Western Conference Playoffs and then part ways with him in the offseason.
Expect the Cleveland Cavaliers to make a move on Sunday.
