The Lakers trade rumors have kicked into high gear with Kevin Love being targeted by the storied franchise once again. Love has been linked to the Lakers a few times this season, but now it appears the team is pursuing the veteran forward before the trade deadline according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports on Feb. 18:
The Lakers and Mavericks are trying to assemble trade offers for prospective free agent Kevin Love, but thus far the Timberwolves have given no indication they'll consider moving the All-Star forward by Thursday's deadline, league sources told CBSSports.com.
It has been rumored over the last few weeks that Love will eventually be headed to the Lakers in one form or another. Although Love hasn't publicly asked to be traded or let it be known that he wants to sign with the Lakers once a free agent, it seems to be inevitable that he'll be wearing the purple and gold in the near future.
With the Dallas Mavericks in a similar situation in comparison to the Lakers with an aging superstar in Dirk Nowitzki, it comes as no surprise that they'd target Love as well. Owner Mark Cuban will likely re-sign Nowitzki locking him up for the rest of his career while looking for a superstar to to receive the torch in Dallas.
It'll be interesting to see if the Lakers are able to pull off a deal while holding off the Mavs in their pursuit of Love. It's no secret Love wants to come to Los Angeles, but whether or not a deal gets done remains to be seen.
