Lakers Trade Rumors: Lakers interested in trading for Devin Harris?

One of the most surprising teams of the season this year in the NBA is without a doubt the Utah Jazz with 10-5 and a much better all-around basketball team than anticipated. Ever since the Jazz lost Carlos Boozer (Chicago Bulls) to free agency and traded away the face of the franchise in point guard Deron Williams to the New Jersey Nets, Utah has been in rebuilding mode by trying to surround talent around Al Jefferson and Paul Milsap.

With promising young players like Gordon Hayward, Derrick Favors and rookie Enes Kanter starting to step it up, the Jazz have started to consider their trade options in order to continue to improve this up-and-coming basketball team. The one player that the Jazz are willing to trade before the March 15 deadline is point guard Devin Harris according to Mark Stein of ESPN.com via Twitter.

This season Harris has fairly mediocre numbers for the Jazz with 8.1 points and 4.5 assists per game. Now that Utah has Earl Watson and Jamaal Tinsley to fill the void in the backcourt, Devin Harris is on the trading block and the Los Angeles Lakers could be the one team in the league that is willing to make a deal for the 28-year-old point guard.

There is no question that if the Lakers were targeting any point guard in the league it would be Deron Williams. Even though that would be the ideal trade for the Lakeshow, a deal to acquire Devin Harris is the more likely scenario with the NBA trade deadline drawing near. Andre Miller of the Denver Nuggets is also a possibility for the Lakers to improve their backcourt, but acquiring Harris or Williams would benefit the team in the long-term.

Unfortunately, the trade exception received from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Lamar Odom ($8.9 million) isn’t enough to cover the acquisition of Devin Harris. With that being said, the Lakers will have to send some players to Utah in order to land Harris.
