Lakers trade rumors suddenly involve Iman Shumpert and the New York Knicks. These Lakers trade rumors come from early Sunday morning (Dec. 15), suggesting the team has been in contact with the Knicks already. According to ESPN, the front office in Los Angeles has expressed interest in acquiring the combo guard.
While there isn't actually a deal in place yet, it makes sense that Shumpert would be sought out by the team. With guards Steve Blake, Steve Nash, and Jordan Farmer all on the injured list, the backcourt could use some extra help. That is exactly what Shumpert could provide, as he is strong at both the point guard and shooting guard positions.
Several other teams have also expressed interest and they include the Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors, but no deal has been made by the Knicks just yet. The other player that has popped up in these Lakers trade rumors is center Tyson Chandler, who could provide some great low-post defense when he gets back from a broken leg.
A potential deal of Pau Gasol for Chandler has surfaced as well, with the ESPN report claiming that the front office in Los Angeles is weighing whether they should propose the deal. That one seems more unlikely, simply because the Knicks aren't looking to part with Chandler in any deal.
No deal is reportedly imminent here, but it is telling that the teams have already discussed constructing a deal.
