This season has been rough on the Los Angeles Lakers both on the road and on the offensive end of the basketball floor. Kobe Bryant might be having an MVP caliber season as he continues to light up the scoreboard on a nightly basis and leading the league in scoring in the process with 29.3 points per game, but at one point or another the Black Mamba could suffer another injury or just become worn out as a result.
With Kobe shouldering the load offensively and a desperate need for an upgrade at point guard, Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has been considering free agent options around the league. The first and most likely option to upgrade both the offense and the point guard position is Gilbert Arenas. The Lakers recently worked out Arenas in Los Angeles and were somewhat impressed with the results, but haven’t indicated whether or not they will sign the 30-year-old veteran.

Another option that has started to create some buzz in Lakerland is Allen Iverson. With Iverson dying to get back into the NBA and finally willing to take a lesser role, the Lakers have reportedly shown interest in signing the former NBA MVP and four-time NBA scoring champion.
According to Stephen A. Smith of ESPNLosAngeles.com, the problem for Iverson is that there are some conditions attached with the Lakers wanting the veteran to play a few weeks in the NBA Development League. Apparently, that didn’t sit well with Iverson, but that stance could change with no NBA teams knocking down his door at this point in his career.
Needless to say, the Los Angeles Lakers appear to be more and more desperate for some new blood to get this squad back on track. There has been plenty of trade talk all season long involving the Lakers and a deal could be the horizon with the NBA trade deadline approaching (March 15), but if Kupchak can’t pull the trigger on a blockbuster trade or a deal that upgrades the point guard position considerably the team might have to settle for veteran like Gilbert Arenas or Allen Iverson.
During his 14-year NBA career, Allen Iverson averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Iverson has played for four different teams including the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and the Memphis Grizzlies.
