With the Los Angeles Lakers struggling and in need of some new blood, the team is reportedly considering making a trade with the NBA trade deadline two months away. The most recent trade rumor involves Iman Shumpert of the New York Knicks according to Chris Broussard of ESPN The Magazine on Dec. 14:
The Lakers recently called the Knicks to express their interest in Iman Shumpert, acccording to sources close to the situation.
The injuries have really started to pile up for the Lakers as of late with no healthy point guards currently on the roster. There's still no timetable for the return of Steve Nash while Jordan Farmar continues to recover from a torn hamstring.
As for Steve Blake, the veteran went down with an elbow injury recently that will keep him out at least the next six weeks. Needless to say, the Lakers are extremely thin in the backcourt and are currently going with Kobe Bryant as the starting point guard for the time being.
With the Knicks struggling this season, New York appears to be open to trading almost anyone on the roster. This isn't the first time Shumpert has been on the trading block and it probably won't be the last if he's not dealt to Los Angeles or another destination before the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 20.
